Who is Tommy Fleetwood?
Tommy Fleetwood is golf’s ultimate rockstar—if rockstars carried golf clubs instead of guitars and their concerts took place on the fairways of Augusta, St. Andrews, and TPC Sawgrass. The Southport Sensation has built a cult-like following thanks to his flowing locks, effortless ball-striking, and a personality that’s as smooth as his swing. Seriously, if this guy doesn’t land a lucrative shampoo deal soon, someone in the golf industry is asleep at the wheel.
Fleetwood has long been regarded as one of the best pure ball-strikers in the game, and yet, there’s one thing missing from his résumé: a PGA Tour victory. Despite coming agonizingly close on multiple occasions, the Englishman has yet to officially break through stateside. Instead, he’s spent the past few years making himself a Ryder Cup hero, delivering clutch performances that have cemented his status as a European golf legend.
As Fleetwood tees it up at The Players Championship today, sitting T33 at 2 under par heading into the final round, he’s got his work cut out for him. He’ll need a miracle round to get anywhere near the leaders, but hey, miracles have happened at TPC Sawgrass before—just ask Rickie Fowler.
His record at The Players Championship has been decent but not spectacular. He’s had multiple top-10 finishes, including a T5 in 2019, but he’s yet to truly challenge for the win on Sunday. With his 2025 equipment setup dialed in, could this finally be the year he conquers golf’s “fifth major”?
Let’s break down what’s in his bag and how it compares to last season.
Tommy Fleetwood’s 2025 WITB: What’s Changed?
Fleetwood has always been meticulous about his equipment, and his 2025 setup features some key changes compared to 2024.
Driver: TaylorMade Qi35 @ 10.5° with a Fujikura Ventus Red 6X Velocore+ shaft
Fleetwood has ditched the Qi10 LS in favor of the new Qi35 driver, citing improved consistency. He’s paired it with a Ventus Red 6X Velocore+ shaft, which offers a higher launch and more feel—perfect for a player who prioritizes control over sheer power.
Mini Driver: TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver @ 13.5° with a Fujikura Ventus Red 6X Velocore+ shaft
Fleetwood was one of the first pros to put a mini driver in play, and he’s sticking with it in 2025. The TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver gives him a lower flight, more accuracy, and extra versatility off the tee—especially on courses where fairway placement is more important than raw distance.
5 Wood: TaylorMade Qi35 @ 18° with a Mitsubishi Kuro Kage XTS 80 TX shaft
Instead of a traditional 3-wood, Fleetwood opts for a 5-wood setup, ensuring he can attack par 5s while maintaining a tighter dispersion. The Kuro Kage XTS 80 TX shaft helps him keep spin in check while maintaining stability at high swing speeds.
Irons: TaylorMade P770 (4i - 5i) and TaylorMade P7TW (6i - PW) with Project X 6.5 shafts
Fleetwood has mixed up his irons this year, switching out the blades in his longer irons for the more forgiving P770s. The P7TWs remain in his bag from 6-iron down, allowing him to maintain workability and precision in his scoring clubs.
Wedges: TaylorMade Hi-Toe 4 wedge (52°) and a Titleist Vokey SM9 (60°) with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shafts
Fleetwood still keeps things simple in the wedge department, carrying just two wedges instead of the usual three or four. The Hi-Toe 4 (52°) offers extra spin on approach shots, while the Vokey SM9 (60°) gives him versatility around the greens.
Putter: TaylorMade TP Soto Truss TF Proto
Fleetwood has finally moved on from his Odyssey White Hot Pro 3, opting for the TaylorMade TP Soto Truss TF Proto. This prototype putter combines a classic blade look with extra stability, helping Fleetwood smooth out his stroke under pressure.
Ball & Grips: TaylorMade TP5x Pix with Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips
Fleetwood remains committed to the TP5x Pix, which he credits for helping him improve alignment on the greens. The Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips keep things consistent across his entire setup.
Fleetwood’s 2024 vs. 2025 Setup: What’s Different?
Fleetwood’s bag hasn’t undergone a total overhaul, but there are some notable changes:
Switched from Qi10 LS to Qi35 Driver → More consistency, higher launch.
New Qi35 5-Wood → Replaces a traditional 3-wood for better control.
P770 Long Irons Instead of P7TWs → Added forgiveness in the 4 and 5 irons.
New Putter → The TaylorMade TP Soto Truss TF Proto replaces his old Odyssey gamer.
Fleetwood at The Players: What’s Next?
Fleetwood hasn’t made the impact he would’ve wanted at TPC Sawgrass this week, currently sitting T33 at 2 under par heading into the final round. It’s safe to say he needs a blistering Sunday if he wants to make any kind of meaningful charge up the leaderboard.
With his 2025 setup now dialed in, Fleetwood will be looking to use The Players as a springboard to bigger things this season—and, hopefully, that elusive first PGA Tour win.
Until then, we’ll be keeping an eye on his ball-striking, his short game, and most importantly—his hair.
