TaylorMade announce the release of their much anticipated P770 and P7CB irons
TaylorMade's lineup of players' irons has long been a favourite among both professionals and amateurs. With the introduction of the new P770 and P7CB series, this trend is poised to continue well into 2024 and beyond.
The hallmark of the P Series has always been its consistency, and the P770 and P7CB models exemplify this trait. These beautifully crafted clubs strike a perfect balance within the TaylorMade lineup, offering a blend of performance and aesthetics that appeal to a wide range of golfers.
“We designed the P7CB with the better player in mind. In working with these players directly they told us, ‘give me precision, give me forgiveness, give me consistency, but do it in a compact head shape.’ The new P7CB delivers a combination of feel and forgiveness in compact shape beyond anything TaylorMade has created in the past.”
– Matt Bovee (Global Category Director, Irons and Wedges, at TaylorMade)
TaylorMade describes the P7CB irons as “players' irons” that offer traditional forgiveness with low launch and high spin characteristics.
To create the P7CB irons, TaylorMade utilized Compact Grain Forging, applying 2,000 tons of pressure to shape the irons from 1025 carbon steel. Engineers carefully distributed mass within the clubhead to optimize feel, informed by modal analysis and feedback from tour professionals.
The P7CB irons maintain a consistent center of gravity throughout the set, ensuring precise launch and spin. Additionally, the faces and grooves of these irons are milled for enhanced performance.
“We’ve done a lot of work to fine-tune the feel of the new P770. This is the ideal iron for the player that needs some forgiveness and performance benefits but doesn’t want to sacrifice any feel or control. In my opinion, this is our most forgiving, best feeling P·770 to date.”
– Matt Bovee (Global Category Director, Irons and Wedges, at TaylorMade)
TaylorMade describes the new P770 irons as "modern players' irons" that offer mid-high forgiveness with a mid-high launch and spin, complemented by a speed boost in the long irons.
Compared to the 2022 model, the 2024 P770 irons are designed to deliver a more solid feel, achieved through the use of modal analysis to fine-tune the clubs’ vibrations.
The shaping of the irons has been refined from the 2022 version, featuring a thinner topline and a more compact overall appearance. Additionally, the leading edge has been adjusted to enhance turf interaction.
Mass placement and internal tungsten weighting have also been reconfigured to provide greater consistency and forgiveness than the 2022 model.
TaylorMade continues to utilize its FLTD CG technology, ensuring higher launch in the long irons and a more penetrating flight in the shorter clubs.
The TaylorMade "P" series irons have a rich history and have seen significant evolution since their inception. The "P" in the series stands for "players," signifying irons designed for skilled golfers seeking performance and precision.
History of the “P” series
The series began with the introduction of the P750 and P770 irons, which quickly gained popularity among tour professionals and low-handicap amateurs. These irons were known for their forged construction and a blend of forgiveness and workability, catering to players who wanted control without sacrificing feel.
Development and Advancements
As technology advanced, TaylorMade continued to innovate. The P790 irons, released in 2017, were a game-changer. They featured a hollow-body construction filled with SpeedFoam, which enhanced distance while maintaining a soft feel. This model expanded the appeal of the P series to a broader range of golfers.
Modern Innovations
In recent years, the P series has seen further refinement. The P7MC and P7MB, introduced in 2020, catered to elite players with their precise craftsmanship and feedback-oriented design. The P770 and P790 have also seen updates, incorporating advanced materials and construction techniques like Compact Grain Forging and tungsten weighting to optimize performance.
Conclusion
The TaylorMade "P" series continues to evolve, blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology, ensuring it remains a favorite among discerning golfers.
