Who is Jake Knapp?
Imagine if a lumberjack, a fashion-forward hipster, and a PGA Tour pro had a love child—that might come close to describing Jake Knapp. Born on May 31, 1994, in Costa Mesa, California, Knapp is a golfer who brings grit, power, and the kind of facial hair that would make a Viking jealous. Before he was crushing drives and making golf balls question their life choices, he was just another Southern California kid with big dreams and an even bigger swing.
Knapp played collegiate golf at UCLA, where he honed his craft and probably learned the importance of layering (those coastal chills are real). But his road to professional glory wasn't exactly paved with gold-plated driver heads. He grinded it out on the Mackenzie Tour (a.k.a. PGA Tour Canada), where he learned the art of battling both tough courses and even tougher competition.
What sets Jake Knapp apart? Beyond his knack for booming drives, Knapp is known for his fearless approach. He's like the guy who walks into a buffet and stacks his plate three feet high—he goes big or he goes home. His rise through the ranks shows a relentless work ethic, combined with a down-to-earth personality that fans love. He's the kind of guy who could teach a masterclass in both golf and growing an enviable beard.
Jake Knapp's Golf Bag & Equipment: The Secret Sauce Behind the Power
Knapp’s driver isn’t just any club—it’s a precision missile launcher. With a 9° loft, this bad boy is built for speed, distance, and the occasional flex of dominance on the tee. Paired with a Fujikura Speeder Evolution 757 Tour Spec 77X shaft, it’s basically the equivalent of strapping a rocket to a sledgehammer. Heavy, fast, and merciless.
Mini Driver: PXG Secret Weapon 13° with Project X HZRDUS T1100 95 6.5 shaft
What’s cooler than having a “Secret Weapon” in your bag? Knapp’s mini driver lives up to its name—sleek, sneaky, and deadly. This PXG club with the HZRDUS T1100 shaft offers stability and control, perfect for those moments when precision trumps raw power.
5 Wood: TaylorMade Qi10 18° with Project X HZRDUS T1100 95 6.5 shaft
Consistency is the name of the game here. Knapp’s 5 wood offers versatility whether he’s attacking a par 5 or navigating trickier lies. The HZRDUS shaft adds a level of stability that makes mishits less likely (although Knapp probably doesn’t know what a mishit feels like).
Irons: PXG 0317 ST (4-PW) with KBS Tour C-Taper 130X shafts
PXG’s 0317 ST irons are a work of art, and Knapp’s full set (from 4-iron to pitching wedge) comes paired with KBS Tour C-Taper 130X shafts. These clubs are designed for maximum control, making sure Knapp can carve up greens like a hot knife through butter.
Wedges: PXG 0311 Sugar Daddy II 52° (10) with KBS Tour C-Taper 130X, Titleist Vokey Design SM9 56° (10S) with KBS Tour C-Taper 130X, WedgeWorks 60° (T) with Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 WV 125
Short game? No problem. Knapp’s wedge setup is like a Swiss Army knife for golf shots, from delicate flop shots to those spin-heavy pitches that make balls stop on a dime.
Putter: PXG Prototype with SuperStroke Zenergy Tour SGP 1.0
This custom flatstick has been the silent assassin in Knapp’s bag. Smooth, balanced, and deadly from inside 10 feet, it’s the kind of putter that makes the hole look twice as big.
Ball: Titleist Pro V1 Left Dot
Knapp’s ball of choice brings consistency, feel, and the kind of control that allows him to stick approach shots like a dart champion on steroids.
Grips: Golf Pride Tour Velvet
Because even the most powerful swing needs a comfortable, reliable grip. Simple, effective, and no-nonsense—just like Knapp himself.
Jake Knapp’s Life, Biography & Mexico Open Performances
Jake Knapp’s journey hasn’t been a straight shot down the fairway. After turning pro in 2016, he spent years grinding on mini-tours and working his way up. It wasn’t until 2019 that Knapp scored his first major breakthrough, winning twice on the Mackenzie Tour.
But life on the fringes of professional golf wasn’t easy—Knapp even worked as a nightclub bouncer to keep his dream alive (yes, imagine telling that guy you’re cutting the line). His resilience paid off when he earned Korn Ferry Tour status and, eventually, full PGA Tour privileges.
Knapp’s crowning achievement so far? Winning the 2024 Mexico Open in a dominating fashion. His powerful game seemed tailor-made for the challenging course, and his aggressive playstyle paid off as he secured his first PGA Tour victory. It was a defining moment for Knapp, proving that all the grind, hustle, and sheer determination had finally paid off. Given his momentum, it wouldn’t be surprising if more victories are on the horizon.
