Proven on the Tour

Even before their official release, the new Opus wedges have already made headlines with their impressive victories on the professional tour. Notably, Xander Schauffele clinched the 2024 PGA Championship, and Yuka Saso triumphed at the 2024 U.S. Women's Open using these wedges. Their success doesn’t stop there. Left-handed golfer Akshay Bhatia and Chris Kirk have secured multiple wins on the PGA Tour with the Opus wedges, while Ruoning Yin added a victory on the LPGA Tour. These achievements underscore the wedges' exceptional design and performance, making them a coveted addition to any golfer's bag.

The Science of Spin

When it comes to drivers, distance is the key metric; for irons, it's forgiveness. However, wedges are all about spin, and the Callaway Opus wedges excel in this department thanks to a combination of advanced technologies designed to grip the cover of the golf ball more effectively. This innovation, known as Spin Gen face technology, ensures maximum spin and control, essential for precise shots around the green.

The first component of Spin Gen technology is a new, tighter pitch of the grooves. These grooves are placed closer together, enhancing their gripping power, similar to the treads on a tire. This tighter pitch allows golfers to impart more spin on the ball, giving them better control over their shots.

The second component is the offset groove-in-groove design with angled micro-features. These small grooves work effectively under all conditions, especially when the face is opened. They run perpendicular to the swing path, providing additional traction and more spin. This design is particularly beneficial for partial shots and those requiring precise control.

Lastly, Callaway's engineers went beyond traditional materials to find that quartz is the perfect blasting material for creating an even more aggressive face blast texture. This texture significantly enhances spin and bite, particularly on slower, partial shots.

Tour-Tested and Approved

Callaway's commitment to excellence is evident in the Opus wedges, which have been rigorously tested and refined with input from tour players. The result is the most tour-tested wedges Callaway has ever produced.

The Opus wedges feature a higher toe profile and specific radii through the lofts, improving the aesthetics from the address position. Additionally, the topline-to-hosel transition has been slimmed down to appeal to discerning golfers who demand a sleek look.

On the underside, four redesigned sole grinds help the wedges sit closer to the ground on open-face shots, improving turf interaction and speed through the turf. This design ensures that golfers can make clean contact with the ball, even in challenging lies.

To add another level of technology and performance, Callaway is also announcing the Opus Platinum wedges. These wedges are manufactured using metal injection molding (MIM), a process that delivers even more precision in the manufacturing process. The Opus Platinum wedges feature 17 grams of tungsten bonded to the back of the topline. This addition raises the center of gravity, further improving launch and spin control into greens.
