Who is Beau Hossler and WITB?

Beau Hossler is an American professional golfer who first made waves as a teenager in the 2012 U.S. Open when he was still an amateur. Born on March 16, 1995, in Mission Viejo, California, Hossler's journey into golf started early, and by the time he was 17, he had already captured the attention of the golf world. His standout performance at the U.S. Open saw him finish as the low amateur, placing T29, despite briefly leading the field in the second round. This breakout moment put him on the radar as a future star.

Hossler attended the University of Texas, where he continued to develop his game. During his college career, he was a three-time All-American and became known for his composure, consistency, and ability to perform under pressure. In 2016, Hossler turned professional after the NCAA Championships, forgoing his senior year at Texas. His transition to the professional ranks was smooth, thanks to his solid all-around game and prior exposure to high-level competition.

On the PGA Tour, Hossler has become known as a steady, reliable player. He’s had multiple close calls and top-10 finishes, though his first PGA Tour victory remains elusive. One of his career highlights came in 2018 when he finished second in a playoff at the Houston Open, narrowly missing out on his first PGA Tour win to Ian Poulter. Despite the ups and downs of his career, Hossler has demonstrated resilience and continued improvement, making him one of the notable young golfers on tour.

Beau Hossler’s WITB:

Hossler’s choice of the Titleist TSR3 driver with an 11° loft paired with a Fujikura Ventus Blue 7 X shaft provides a perfect balance of distance and accuracy. The TSR3 is designed for players who have consistent contact and want a bit more control over shaping their shots. With its adjustable features, Hossler can fine-tune it for optimal performance depending on course conditions.

Hossler’s 3-wood, the Titleist GT2, offers a slightly higher loft than standard at 16.5°, giving him more height and forgiveness on approach shots from the fairway or when using it off the tee on tighter courses. The Mitsubishi Diamana PD 80 TX shaft gives him the stability needed for powerful, accurate shots from long distances.

Adding a 7-wood to his bag shows Hossler’s focus on versatility. With a 21° loft, the TSR2 7-wood is perfect for mid-range shots and offers more forgiveness than long irons. This club is beneficial when navigating difficult lies or getting extra height and stopping power on long approaches.

Hossler uses a mixed set of irons to fine-tune his game. The T200 (5i) and T100 (5i, 6i) provide a balance of forgiveness and distance, ideal for long approaches. Meanwhile, the Titleist 620 CB irons (7i-9i) offer more workability and control for his shorter irons. The Project X 6.0 shafts, known for their low trajectory and stable feel, are a great match for his consistent swing.

Hossler’s wedge setup is carefully curated for precision around the greens. He combines the consistency of the Vokey SM9 and SM8 models with versatile grind options for different types of shots. His 60° wedge with the K grind is perfect for navigating tight lies and sand shots, while the combination of Project X and Dynamic Gold shafts gives him the control and spin he needs for scoring.

Known for its alignment features, the Odyssey 2-Ball Ten putter helps Hossler with his aim and consistency on the greens. The putter is a great tool for players who struggle with alignment and need extra stability during their stroke.

Like many pros, Hossler trusts the Titleist Pro V1x for its consistent performance, offering a good balance of distance, spin, and control. Paired with Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips, he gets the optimal feel and feedback from his clubs.

Beau Hossler’s equipment choices reflect his desire for balance and control across all aspects of his game. His decision to use a combination of forgiving woods and irons with more workable short irons and wedges indicates a focus on precision and versatility. As he continues to search for his first PGA Tour victory, his carefully selected gear will play a crucial role in his quest for success on challenging courses. With his all-around game and thoughtful equipment setup, Hossler is well-positioned to make a significant impact on the PGA Tour in 2024.
